Since the invention of glowsticks in the 1960's 'glow products' have become more and more popular and have taken on various shapes from necklaces to glowing cups.

How do the bracelets glow?

If you look in our section ‘How are they made?’ you will see that 2 liquids are used and they are kept apart by housing one of the liquids in a very thin glass vial. These liquids are housed in the actual bracelet itself and remain apart until they are ‘activated’.

Glow liquids are housed in the actual bracelet

So when you are ready for your bracelet to glow – or to ‘activate’ your bracelet, simply pull it through your thumb and forefinger at a slight angle. You will hear little tiny snaps and see the bracelet spring into glowing life along the full length. A little shake will ensure it is fully activated and glowing it’s best.

Glow from a chemical reaction

Glow bracelets produce their glow from a chemical reaction that results in a release of energy that is experienced as light. This process is called chemiluminescence and is caused by mixing tert-butyl alcohol, hydrogen peroxide and fluorescent dyes.

When glowing the bracelet produces no heat, is totally self powered (no batteries) and is waterproof.

That's how glow bracelets glow!
